I already have the right
to protect my flag. If I make or purchase a flag, anyone
trespassing or attempting to steal or destroy my flag can be
prosecuted under the appropriate criminal or civil statutes.

Position
Statement:
I believe that burning or desecrating the American flag is
evidence of a spirit that is ungrateful, immature, and
full of pride. The act is needlessly offensive, divisive
and counter-productive. But it does not endanger the life,
liberty or pursuit of happiness of anyone else, and is
therefore protected by the First Amendment.
The proper
response to an ungrateful and unpatriotic spirit is not
putting a gun to the flag-burner's head and demanding
payment of a fine, or putting a gun to MY head and forcing
me to pay money to the
rapidly-growing prison-industry to give this immature
flag-burner hot meals, color TV and exercise equipment for
a term in jail. Your amendment will only increase the
power of the State, but will not foster admiration for the
values of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
The answer is the
separation of school and state. Private schools teach
patriotism, good manners, and Godly values. Ironically,
government schools teach disrespect for government and
country.
