Ruth Peterson, 78

Ruth M. Peterson, 78, of Cathedral City, died on Jan. 28, 2000, at Eisenhower Medical Center, in Rancho Mirage.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1921, in Dillard, Okla. to Lonnie Amos and Orpha Treba Barnes Maples.

Mrs. Peterson was past president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for the State of Idaho; on the Democratic Central Committee; a National Easter Seal Society board member; and a realtor in Utah and California.

She is survived by her fiancé, John Stillman of Palm Desert; two daughters, Jill Dunagan Friis of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Kristin Peterson of Cathedral City; two sons, Cliff Peterson of Springville, Utah and Jeff Peterson of San Francisco; two sisters, Joy Gillin of Palmdale and Lottie Smith of Clearwater; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Steve Dunagan and Clifton U. Peterson; her daughter, Lois Jane Dunagan; and her brother, Vachel Maples.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Palm Springs Mortuary, Cathedral City.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Palm Desert.

Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls, Idaho with Palm Springs Mortuary, Cathedral City in charge of arrangements.

Albert Alfieri, 85

Albert Dante Alfieri, 85, of Palm Desert died Jan. 28, 2000, at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

He was born July 30, 1914, to Francisco and Maria Venencia Alfieri in Los Angeles.

He married Audelene Bernice Meadows.

He was a general manager of Farmer John’s.

He is survived by his wife, Audelene of Palm Desert; a daughter, Geraldine of Palm Desert; a son, Burt of the United Arab Emirates; a sister, Mary Lindenbaum; a brother, Ralph of Arcadia;three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Palm Springs Mortuary in Cathedral City.

The family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders of California, 5979 W. Third St., Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90036-9844.

Bobby Castillo, 16

Bobby Perez Castillo, 16, a seven-year resident of Thermal, died on Jan. 24, 2000, in Indio.

He was born on March 16, 1983, at Indio to Martin Perez and Leticia Castillo.

Bobby was a student at Coachella Valley High School.

He is survived by his father, Martin Perez of Tennessee; his mother, Leticia of Thermal; his stepfather, Francisco Bravo of Thermal; his brother, William Perez of Thermal; his sister, Joanna Perez of Thermal; and his maternal grandparents, Joel and Ofelia of Coachella.

Visitation will be from 4 to 11 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel of the Palms Funeral Home in Coachella.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Soledad, 52525 Oasis Palms, Coachella.

Interment will be in Coachella Valley Cemetery with Chapel of the Palms Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Antonio Rivas, 74

Antonio Rivas, 74, a 40-year resident of Indio, died on Jan. 29, 2000, at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio.

He was born on June 15, 1925, in Progresso, Mexico to Ramon and Gaudalupe Ramirez Rivas.

He married Gaudelia Guajardo on May 17, 1952, in Hermanas, Mexico.

Mr. Rivas was a ranch manager for Fausel Farms for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gaudelia of Indio; three sons, Antonio Jr., Raul and Eduardo, all of Indio; his daughter, Arcidalia Garcia of Thousand Palms; his brother, Cresencio of Texas; his sister, Ofelia of Mexico; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fitzhenry Funeral Homes Desert Chapel, 51-990 S. Jackson St., Coachella.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Coachella Valley Cemetery.

FitzHenry Funeral Homes Desert Chapel in Coachella is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 9041 Magnolia Ave., Ste. 308, Riverside, CA 92503.

Christi Tanner, 35

Christi Tanner, 35, died on Jan. 26, 2000, at home in Fernley, Nev.

She was born Oct. 13, 1964, in Riverside to Chuck and Ellen Markert Silva.

She was a clerk at Amazon.com in Fernley, Nev.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Fernley, Nev.; two daughters, Christa Esparza of Round Mountain and Maria Esparza of Fernley, Nev.; her son, Mario Esparza of Fernley, Nev.; her mother, Ellen Silva of Indio; her father, Chuck Silva of Palm Desert and Reno, Nev.; her brother, Charles of Stockholm, Sweden; and her sister, Tina Potter of Lake Havasu, Ariz.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 31 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Reno, Nev. with Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary of Reno, Nev. in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Desert Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fernley, Nev.

Alice Muus, 79

Alice Irma Muus, 79, died on Jan. 29, 2000, at home in Desert Hot Springs.

She was born on Feb. 7, 1920, in Park Falls, Wis. to Henry and Alwina Zerbe Menzel.

She married Paul John Muus on July 3, 1943 at Detroit Mich. and was a homemaker for 53 years. She belonged to the Desert Hot Springs Woman’s Club.

Mrs. Muus is survived by three sisters, Ruth Girens of Vista and Myra Due and Martha Howard, both of Bellavista, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul John Muus in 1990.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mission Chapel of Desert Hot Springs Mortuary, 66272 Pierson Blvd., Desert Hot Springs.

Inurnment will be private with Desert Hot Springs Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 74-140 El Paseo, Ste. 2, Palm Desert, CA 92260.

James Craig, 66

James "Jimmey" Lee Craig, 66, an 11-year resident of Desert Hot Springs, died on Jan. 26, 2000, at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1933, in Yellville, Ark. to John Burley and Velma Eual Hand Craig. He married Marybeth Rea on Dec. 26, 1955, in Branson, Mo.

Mr. Craig was western regional manager of sales and engineering for Datatape Scientific Instruments (Eastman Kodak) for 30 years. He served in the 7th Army Division, 687th Army Water Supply Co. in France for four years.

Mr. Craig was comptroller for Palm Springs Christian Schools, Desert Hot Springs and president of Vine and Fig Tree, Inc. He belonged to the American Legion; California Republican Assembly; Mission Lakes Country Club and Men’s Golf Club; Elbow Ranch Cattle Corp., Missouri; Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn.; the Association of Old Crows, 687th Army Reunion Group; and the School of the Ozarks Alumni Assn.

Survivors include his wife, Marybeth Rea Craig of Desert Hot Springs; his son, James Kevin Craig of Desert Hot Springs; and his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Slay of Desert Hot Springs.

A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Community Church, 66-675 Pierson Blvd., Desert Hot Springs. Inurnment will be in Edwards Cemetery, Branson, Mo. with Desert Hot Springs Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Wright, 84

Ruby Cathern Wright, 84, of Batesville, Ark. died on Jan. 28, 2000, in Batesville, Ark.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1916, in Mountain View, Ark. to Jodie and Minnie Davis Burns.

Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and belonged to the Ruddell Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Kermit Martin of Palm Desert and Gerald Martin of Roseburg, Ore.; her daughter, Norma McKinney of Batesville, Ark.; two sisters, Grace Davis of Tujunga and Baxie Lancaster of McGrory, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Earl Martin, Ted Anderson and Delbert Wright; her parents; six brothers; and two sisters.

Services were held on at Ruddell Hill Baptist Church with Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville, Ark. in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be in Campground Cemetery, Bethesday, Ark.

Sergio Meza, 32

Sergio Ramirez Meza, 32, of Palm Springs died Jan. 23, 2000, in Palm Springs.

He was born Aug. 23, 1967, to Miguel and Velia Meza Ramirez in Santa Anita, Jalisco, Mexico.

He was a waiter at Indian Wells Country Club for seven years.

He is survived by his parents, Miguel and Velia Ramirez of Palm Springs; a son, Sergio Jr. of Palm Springs; nine sisters, Anita Cabrera, Celia, Angeles, Lola, Adriana, Maria del Rosario Ramirez, Gabriela, Lourdes and Luz Maria; six brothers, Miguel, Jose Juan, Alejandro, Miguel Angel, Jose, and Rafael ; and companion, Maricela Lopez of Palm Springs.

Burial will be at Santa Anita Cemetery in Santa Anita, Jalisco, Mexico.
