Today is The Third WayOn our walk to the corner grocery store last week, you mentioned the pathetic fellow whose kids were all messed up, and whose wife was a happy philanderer. This seemed to prove in your mind the futility of remaining single and waiting for one's wife to come to her senses. The book I left in your room, The Rebuilder's Guide, shows that there is a whole lot more to waiting than just killing time. I am completely confident that the fellow you mentioned doesn't relate to his kids the way you do toward yours. You don't have to be like either of those two. You don't have to worry about becoming a loser like that guy, nor should you follow the example of his wife.
Not only is there a third way (a husband who brings joy and mental health to his kids, and prays for the healing of his wife) but there is another way: a wife who ignores her family, sleeps around, and becomes not happy and well-adjusted, but miserable, bitter, and eventually insane. Hollywood wants us to believe that the people who embrace Biblical values are nerds, emotionally retarded, unable to relate to others, and poor, while those who reject traditional Christian values are prosperous and wonderful to be around. It is true that many non-Christians do prosper, and they are actors, who convince us that they are happy. We must "walk by faith, not by sight" 2 Corinthians 5:7. Because if our eyes are really open, we will see the violence and insanity that characterize those who abandon God's paths.
