Dear Marybeth: I feel very uncomfortable in expressing condolences by e-mail. Unfortunately, I'm finding that my level of correspondence forces me to give priority to expediency over propriety. I'm sure your husband's death has created many difficult periods for you. And I do hope you've been able to adjust to living without him even if it has been hard at times. I would appreciate receiving the booklet your daughter wrote. I would use it to modify your biography as appropriate. Also, it's my practice to include in the newsletter notices of the deaths of spouses. While the readers ordinarily do not know spouses, they are interested in what's happening in the lives of their acquaintances. Regarding your questions about the correspondence from Fred McElhenie. He and I are in contact, and the co-op alumni steering committee authorized releasing the Don Henry Co-op mailing list to him. That avoids duplication of effort, since I've already gone through Jayhawkers and student directories for names and since nearly all of my addresses come from the Alumni Association, his source of addresses in the past. I've seen his list for Harman, and it does seem quite short. However, I haven't had time to check on his omissions. A problem for both him and me is the large percentage of names on the "search list." This usually means that the Alumni Association either has no current address or the name is not in its database. The latter is common for people who didn't secure KU degrees. To complicate matters, I sometimes can find men on the search list by using the Internet phone directories or other sources. Of course, that's much more difficult for women, since I usually don't have married names. The March issue of the Rochdale Rag went into the mail at the end of last week. Unfortunately, the printer made an error in the printing labels. Yours probably reads Marybeth Craig 9045 Clubhouse Blvd HH 47-50 Desert Hot Springs, CA As yet, I have no sense of the problems this may create in delivery, if any. However, please let me know if you don't receive it by the end of this week. I need the information for any complaints made to the printer. By the way, the lead article describes the Student Housing Department project. Marybeth, I enjoyed hearing from you, but am sorry that the death of your husband had to be the reason. Sincerely, John
