I received and email from Jean Crawford Briscoe that some of the family
will be at the memorial service in Montreat on Saturday, December 1st at
11:00 am in Gaither. Also, she asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to the Jack and Sylvia Crawford Scholarship Fund at Montreat
College. In addition we have a limited supply of Jack Crawford and Andy
Andrews' last Mountain Meditations calendar that we will send to anyone
that would like one. If you would like a calendar, send an email with
your name and address and we will get one in the mail to you. There is
no charge for the calendar but if you would like to make a donation we
will add it to the scholarship fund. Below is a letter that Jean wanted
me to pass along to you all:

Please send special thanks to all those who have upheld us and continue
to uphold us with their warm and loving prayers. We have truly felt God
honoring those prayers in His presence with us and with Dad - and
especially in that precious gift of two more months that God allowed Dad
to be with family and friends and enjoy all the many tributes so many
people sent to him in the form of letters, cards, phone calls, and
visits.  Dad was blessed   in so many, many ways by the people who
crossed his path in life.  What a great reunion is going on in Heaven
right now - and what a greater one there will be when we ALL get there!
God is great and good.  He blessed us with this man's presence, life and
example.  In Him - Jean

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW MONTREAT COLLEGE STUDENTS
LIVE FREE

MONTREAT-Students entering Montreat College in the fall of 2002 will
live virtually free of charge from their freshman through their senior
year thanks to a new Residential Rebate Program.  The program reduces
the school's comprehensive fee by the cost of room and board each year
the student is enrolled full-time and lives on campus at Montreat
College. "That's a savings of at least $16,920 over four years," says
Anita Darby, director of admissions at Montreat College. "We put this
program together to support our mission of helping students grow
emotionally and spiritually, as well as intellectually. We want to
encourage new students to get the fullest college experience possible by
becoming a real part of Montreat College, and the best way to truly do
that is to have the student live on campus. We didn't want cost to
hinder anyone. It's quite a deal, and we're so pleased to be able to
offer it."
The Residential Rebate is limited to new students. "To qualify
for the program, a student must be accepted for the fall of 2002," says
Darby. Applications to Montreat College are available on-line at
www.Montreat.edu and by calling the admissions office at 1-800-622-6968
or 828-669-8011. "Class sizes are limited," cautions Darby. "So I would
advise getting an application in quickly to take advantage of this
rebate." Darby adds that students accepting the rebate may qualify for
other financial aid as well.
Montreat College is a coeducational, Christian, liberal arts
institution. Located in the mountain resort town of Montreat, N.C.,
Montreat College is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is

As many of you know, the Presidential Search Committee of the Montreat
College Board of Trustees is hard at work searching for a new president
for the college.  It is of utmost importance and urgency that the right
person be "called" to this position.  So, we would like to request that
each of you join the two of us in praying for God's guidance and wisdom
for the committee as they continue to search, interview and make their
selection.  Also, please pray for Bill and Mary Eleanor Hurt in their
remaining time of leadership at the college.  They have done such an
excellent job!  Thank you for praying.

Subj: Christmas Greetings from Montreat!

Christmas Greetings from Montreat College! I wanted to take a moment and
wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to give you a brief update from
the alumni office.

This has been a very busy year in the alumni office and a very good one
as well. 2001 began with a very successful phonathon which helped us end
the year with a record amount raised from alumni to the Keystone Fund.
In October, Homecoming was a very special event as many took the
opportunity to gather with old friends and was well attended in spite of
the events of 9/11. The Elizabeth Wilson Scholars that work in the
alumni office (all 15 of them) have been very busy as well. The web site
has received a whole new look and has been enhanced, all of the archive
photos through the early 80's have been scanned and will be online in
January (many already are!), alumni records are in the best shape they
have ever been in and the school newspaper, The Whetstone, is a strong
voice on campus thanks to the E.W. Scholars who produce it! These
students also assisted in staging many events on campus and at In the
Oaks and are an incredible group of men and women to work with!

There is much to be proud and excited about for the whole college as
well. In June we acquired the In the Oaks property in Black Mountain
which is a tremendous addition to our campus and will provide amazing
growth potential for Montreat College in the future. This new campus
contains over 70 acres in downtown Black Mountain a beautiful historic
manor house and several other facilities as well. Also, after ten
successful years as President of Montreat College, Bill Hurt will be
retiring at the end of June 2002. The New Year holds the anticipation of
a new administration and the excitement that surrounds a transition of
power. Your prayers for God's direction for Montreat College in this
year of change will be coveted! Of course the most impressive things at
Montreat College are the students themselves. In my 12 years of being
associated with Montreat College I can honestly say that the students we
have here now are some of the finest I have known! There is a sense of
excitement on campus that is exciting to see!

With such a wonderful group of students at the college it is also very
exciting to report that the Keystone Fund has been changed from an
annual budget relieving fund to a scholarship fund that directly
benefits these students! The Keystone Fund has always benefited the
students indirectly by keeping tuition costs down but now the students
will receive the funds directly and will know that the alumni and
friends of the college are directly supporting them in their educational
journey! You probably received a brochure a few weeks ago about this
change and were able to read about students and alumni that have
benefited from scholarships from Montreat College. As you know, I rarely
use this forum to ask you to support the students at Montreat College
but in this year of uncertainty with the 9/11 events and the oscillating
stock market, the students need your support more than ever! As we
approach the end of the year would you consider a gift to the Keystone
Scholarship Fund? You can make your gift securely online at
https://secure.montreat.edu/advancement/pledge.asp
<https://secure.montreat.edu/advancement/pledge.asp>  and will receive a
tax deductible receipt by mail for your gift. Thanks in advance for
supporting the students and the educational and spiritual mission of
Montreat College!

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! If you
