Theocracy means "God rules." Every society is "theocratic." The question is, who is the God of our society? The God of the Hebrew-Christian Bible, or man the would-be god? More particularly, did the Framers of the U.S. Constitution envision a Secular Humanistic Theocracy, or a Christian Theocracy, a "nation under God"?
The purpose of this list is to discuss questions like:
* was America ever a Theocracy, and
* is it "constitutional" to try to make it a Theocracy;
* whether the Framers intended America's government to
recognize its duty to God to be a Christian nation or
* whether they intended America to be an irreligious secular nation;
* whether Christians are Biblically required to make their
nation a Theocracy (regardless of the Framers' intent);
* whether any nation can ever give 100% religious freedom (or
whether the practices of some religions must always be
criminalized);
* whether the Framers intended to give pagan religions 100%
religious freedom;
* whether the Founding Fathers would have preferred a Secular
Humanist Leviathan State or a Christian Theocracy
as advocated by Vine & Fig Tree;
* why "theocracy" is an inescapable concept.
But there's more. Much more.
The owner of this list believes that the Bible should be used
as a blueprint for the construction of a Godly social order.
What kind of society would we have if we closely followed
the Hebrew-Christian Scriptures? A society ruled by priests?
A society ruled by kings?
No. The Biblical social order is Patriarchy. Priests and
kings were temporary and provisional. When Christians
take responsible dominion, family by family, allowing God
to rule in every area of their lives, we have Theocracy,
but not rule by priests or kings. Truly Biblical Theocracy
is Anarcho-Theocracy. Popes and princes both
oppose Biblical Theocracy.
Resources:
This mailing list presupposes some familiarity (though not
necessarily agreement) with the Vine & Fig Tree agenda:
the creation of a society which recognizes its obligation to
obey God's Law as revealed in the Hebrew-Christian Scriptures
-- a Theonomic Theocracy -- which is also clergy-free and politics-free.

Limitations:
Secularists who oppose the idea of America being a Christian
nation are welcome to defend their vision of a Secular Humanist
theocracy.
Christians who oppose Vine & Fig Tree's idea of eliminating
both church and state are welcome to defend their vision of a
sacerdotal/political Theocracy.
Christians who support "pluralism" and oppose any idea of a
Theonomic Theocracy are welcome to defend their vision of
an atheistic dictatorship.
All parties must show decency and consideration (although,
as I have just demonstrated, sarcasm is acceptable), and
must have something that looks like evidence or reasoning
to back up their opinions. Posts that say nothing more
than "I agree!" or "You're a wacko!" should be sent
directly to the party concerned; they will not be
distributed to the entire list; I am an anarchist,
but I believe in Total Depravity, and therefore I believe
censorship makes better mailing lists. :-)
"Edification" is the name of the game.
